The word 'organic' is thrown around so often that we become apt to ignore it's true and important meaning. Organic cotton doesn't use any synthetic chemicals. In contrast conventional cotton does use chemicals which can be toxic and damaging on the environment. The chemicals used in cotton agriculture are highly intensive and have been linked to causing cancer. One of many examples of the effects of pesticides happened in 1995 in Alabama when 240,000 fish died due to pesticide run offs from nearby cotton farms. If this is happening to our fish, why should we be using it in our clothes we wear everyday?
